A rough gem

Experiments with watercolour

OYT- watercolour gem card

Over the next few weeks I will be taking the time to catch up on the blog with some pieces that I have been making but haven’t managed to post about on here!

I have had a little experiment with using different media. Immediately drawn to trying watercolours as a background to the thread work, I was excited by the contrast these could provide. I wanted the watercolour background to be colourful, free flowing, and fluid. The stitching over the top is strong, black, angular. Both elements strong, and in contrasting with each other they emphasise the others qualities. Hopefully adding interest and a different dimension to my work.  I think I need to work on my watercolour skills a bit more though (and my photography!!!)

I am looking forward to experimenting a bit more with different materials, and I hope to have some things available for you to buy at some point soon!

Watch this space! 😉

A little Gem

I produced this piece as a card for my In Laws’ Ruby Wedding Anniversary. They loved it and I was very pleased with the result! I plan to scale it up and create a much larger piece for the wall, look at different colours and have a play!

A little butterfly

I hope you have all had a lovely weekend!

For those of you that don’t follow Catherine from Studio Hunting Bears on Instagram (first of all you really should!) you will have missed a picture of this card I made for her last week.  I wanted to send her a little something to say a huge thank you for supporting my work and for being such a fab person!

What else could I produce, but a butterfly, for our Flutterbymama!!
